FAQs

How do I apply for a 6th form place?

Contact the centre(s) you wish to apply to and ask for a 6th form application form, or complete online.   See more details about applications and admissions policies on our Apply page.

Can I apply to more than one centre in Westminster?

Yes.  It is sensible to apply to more than one centre so that you have back-up options in case the application to your first choice is not successful.

When should I apply?

Applicants in Year 11 apply from late autumn onwards, for starting Year 12 in September the following year.  Each centre has its own deadline for applications so you must make sure you submit applications on time.

What if I have missed the application deadline for a centre I would really like to apply to?

In some cases the centre may still be able to consider your application and to put you on a waiting list for places.  Contact the centre to find out the latest situation.

I have moved to London in the middle of the academic year – will I be able to enrol at a school 6th form or FE college?

Sorry, after the end of September/start of October it is not usually possible to enrol at a school 6th form as it is too late to join courses – you will have missed too much.  However the colleges do offer some courses which start in January, or Easter, or flexibly throughout the year – contact City of Westminster College or Westminster Kingsway College for details.  And at the same time you should be thinking about where you would like to apply to for the following September, and make sure you don’t miss the application deadlines.

Do I have to be a Westminster resident to apply to school 6th forms or FE colleges in Westminster?

No.

What are the entry requirements for courses at 6f centres?

Entry requirements will vary slightly between centres.  You should refer to information on centres’ own websites.

I have recently moved to the UK from overseas and I do not have GCSE qualifications – can I still apply for 6th form courses?

You should contact centres who offer the courses you are interested in studying and explain your situation.  They may be able to offer you an assessment to determine which level of course you would be able to study, and may ask for reports and references from your school overseas.

Can I change schools for Year 13?

This is very unusual but may ocassionally be possible, depending on the circumstances.   Contact the 6f Coordinator with details of your situation (previous school, where you would like to apply, reason for wanting to change) and we will see if any centre is able to help.  If you wish to continue with A Level subjects that you have already started you will need to provide details of your subjects and exam boards.

Can I re-start Year 12 at a different centre?

This may sometimes be possible, depending on the circumstances.  Contact the 6f Coordinator with details of your situation (previous school, where you would like to apply, which subjects you would like to take, reason for wanting to change, your GCSE results) and we will see if any centre is able to help.
