Student Awards

The Loon Fung Scholarship

The Loon Fung Scholarship was set up by Mr James Chin who has worked in London's Chinatown for 35 years and wished to put something back into the community.  He donated £20,000 over 5 years to cover scholarships of £500 for one student in each of Westminster's secondary schools per year.  The scholarship is awarded to the student with the best A Level results going on to higher education.

2006 winners:

Pimlico School - awarded to Alan Long who achieved 4 grade As at A Level in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology.  Alan is currently on a gap year and has applied to study Medicine in 2007.

Quintin Kynaston School - awarded to Morteza Deghanpour who achieved 4 grade As at A Level.

St Augustine's School - awarded to Bhavna Patel who achieved A grades in A Level Psychology, Mathematics and Biology, and B grades in AS Level Chemistry and Further Maths.  Bhavna is in her first term of a Mathematics degree at UCL.

St Marylebone School - awarded to Shammi Khan who achieved 4 grade As at A Level.

The Grey Coat Hospital - awarded to Hannah Grayson who achieved 4 grade As at A Level in English, French, German and Latin.  Hannah is to start reading Modern Languages at Wadham College, Oxford, in 2007.  In 2005 the scholarship was awarded to Devon Kennard (now reading Biochemistry at Manchester) and in 2004 to Elizabeth Williams (now reading Natural Sciences at Cambridge). 

Westminster City School - awarded to Ayotunde Adelaja who achieved AAAB at A Level and will be studying Medicine at Kings GKT School of Medicine.

The Forrest and Grinsell Award

The Forrest and Grinsell Award is awarded annually to a student at a Westminster school and living in Westminster.  £4000 is given annually for each of the 3 years of a degree course.  Students are nominated by staff before Easter and must satisfy criteria for attendance and behaviour.  In 2005 a Grey Coat Hospital student, Penny Barnard Brown, was awarded the money for each year of her Veterinary Medicine course at the Royal Veterinary College.

United Westminster Almshouses Foundation Scholarship

This £4000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student from one of the United Westminster group of schools.  In 2006 it was awarded to Ataur Rahman from Westminster City School to study Actuarial Science at LSE.
